Giraffe Fight is a game designed, coded, and developed by myself with help from a friend, John Galbreath, on the opening title sequence illustrations. This project was inspired by Teenage Engineering and Panic who came together to create a console called the Playdate--the first handheld console with a crank.
This game focuses on the silly, yet agressive nature in which giraffes tend to fight; by swinging there necks at one another. Obviously, I needed to create a game of street fighting giraffes.
Learning to Code in Lua
I am completely self taught when it comes to coding, so the progress for making this game was s l o w . . .
and made
even slower when I realized I’d have to build everything from scratch -- the game engine, animations, scene editor, error debugging, visuals, and so on.
Setback, after setback, I slammed through each obstacle, like a head thrashing giraffe.
During this time, the revolutionary advancement of ChatGPT entered the chat.
With it’s help as a debug assistant / sounding board from the Panic Developer Kit, I was finally able to make an alpha of Giraffe Fight.
